Francis MACFARLAND Obituary

FRANCIS ANNE MacFARLAND 'Sassy' Passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018 at Toronto General Hospital bringing an 18-year battle with Lymphoma cancer to its final end. Francis was born on November 29, 1948 in Toronto, to Edward James Attwood and Marjorie Doreen (nee Price). Her life was defined by her kindness, her strong spirit and her ability to always see the best in everyone and everything. Devoted and loving mother to Dianna, life partner and cherished wife to Les, beloved and caring sister to Marian, she changed for good all those whose lives she touched. She will be remembered and missed by all. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. at Burnhamthorpe, on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A private family service will be held. For those who wish, memorial donations made in recognition of Francis' spirit, to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation with funds allocated to Lymphoma Cancer Research, would be appreciated by the family. www.thepmcf.ca/Ways-to-Give. I suppose it's a better late than never scenario...

I only just learned of Francis's passing this moment. There are so many things I could say, but I think the thing that needs to be said the most is that Francis was one of the kindest people I ever met. I had the genuine pleasure of working with her from the time of my arrival in Canada until the birth of my child in 2008. Francis was exceptionally kind, and never failed to brighten my day. Whether there was homesickness or culture shock, or even just a mediocre day, everything was made better by a quick chat with Francis. I am genuinely fortunate to have had her in my life, and she will continue to be remembered fondly, thought of often, and genuinely missed.

I have been blessed to have known Francis for almost 30 years. I called her My Other Mother as she always watched over me to ensure that I was taking good care of myself. Even though we hadn't worked together at Aramark for quite some time, we always stayed in touch mostly because of Francis' effort to do so. She was an angel on earth and is now for certain an angel in Heaven. My heart aches; I'm sorry Les and Dianna that yours must be in pieces. Time and wonderful memories will help to mend your broken hearts; the fond memories of Francis doing the limbo at our wedding keeps a smile on my face whenever I think of her. I pray for your family.
