MESSUD, François-Michel
of Greenwich, CT and Napanee, Ontario, died July 19, 2010 age 79. Born in Toulon, France, he grew up in Beirut, Salonica, and Algiers, and came to the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship, at Amherst College, in 1952. He received his MA from the Harvard Center for Middle Eastern Studies, 1961, and an MBA from IMD, Geneva, 1963. He worked for many years for Péchiney Corporation, including Péchiney Canada, and at his retirement was President of Péchiney World Trade. A lifelong scholar, passionate traveler, fierce lover of life and of his family, a man of abiding humor and greatest integrity, who faced illness in recent years with unflinching courage and optimism, he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his adored wife of 53 years, Margaret (née Riches, of Toronto); by his sister Denise (of Toulon); his daughters Elizabeth (of Paris) and Claire (of Cambridge, Mass); by his sons-in-law Vassili Efimov and James Wood; and by his four beloved grandchildren.
