FRANÇOISE BROUILLET LAPORTE Françoise Brouillet Laporte, died on November 2, 2021, at age 98, surrounded by her family. Francoise Brouillet Laporte was born in L'Assomption, Quebec, on January 30th, 1923. Her father was a farmer, a Justice of the Peace and an entrepreneur. Her mother was a school teacher. Francoise met the man who would become her husband at a graduation ball at the College L'Assomption. Together, they had three children, Marie, Claire and Jean. At 8 years old Marie, died from a brain tumor. Her husband, Pierre Laporte, a lawyer, became a journalist for Le Devoir. He entered politics and became a Minister in the Liberal governments of both Jean Lesage and Robert Bourrassa. At the time of his assassination by FLQ in October 1970 he was the Vice-Premier, Parliamentary Leader, Minister of Labour, and Minister of Immigration in the Quebec Government. He was 49 years old, and Francoise was 47 years old. The couple at the time were preparing to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Francoise Laporte had been active working with various immigration organizations given her interests in the treatment of newcomers to Canada. She was appointed a judge of the Canadian Citizenship Court, and remained a judge until retirement. Judge Laporte carried out her duties with dedication, insight and compassion earning the respect of those she encountered. There is no doubt that one of the greatest joys of Francoise was family life. Especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a strong constitution and at 97 years old Francoise was interested by the issues of the day. Francoise is survived by her daughter, Claire (A. Edward Aust); her son, Jean (Josee Robineau); her grandchildren, Thomas Laporte Aust (Kate Pitfield), Charles Laporte Aust (Celia Huang Aust), Jean-Pierre Laporte (Chloé Bibeau) and Elyse Laporte, and her five great-grandchildren, Edward Pitfield Aust, Sophie Pitfield Aust and Alexandre Pitfield Aust, Adrien Huang Aust and Claire Huang Aust. She is also survived by her sisters, Louise (late Roland Laporte, late Gerard Tessier), Lucie (late Claude Vary) et Claire; her sisters-in-law, Janine (Marcel Brouillet), Suzanne (Laurent Brouillet); and many nieces and nephews. Among the joys and the difficult times that life brought, Francoise proceeded with a generous heart spreading love and warmth to those around her. A celebration of her life by her family will take place at a later date. We will miss you maman.
