Frank CARTER Obituary

FRANK CRESSWELL CARTER Retired Professor of Architecture, Carleton University Passed away peacefully in hospital on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the age of 81. Loving partner to Norma Rankin. Cherished twin brother to Stewart Carter (Joan) and brother-in-law to Greer Carter (Bob). Beloved father to Cresswell Carter (Shirley), Marney Howden (Paul) and stepfather to David Rogers (Lisa) and Tracey Rogers. Grandfather to Ethan, Nolan, Grant, Brielle, Sarah, Jacob (Carly), Jessica (Jeremy), Jenna (Matt) and Gregory. Great-grandfather to Jaxton and Dawson. Treasured uncle to Scott Carter (Annette), Julie Carter (Jim), and ex-husband to Joan Brown. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Jack Carter, his brother John 'Herbie' Carter and his stepson Dennis 'DJ' Rogers. Frank's passions in life were people and architecture. After graduating from the University of Toronto with a degree in Architecture and obtaining his Masters of Architecture from Harvard, Frank found his way to Carleton University in Ottawa, where he became a bit of an institution himself. There he was able to flourish in both areas, immersing himself in all things architectural while mentoring and connecting with hundreds of students over the years. Frank made so many dear friends at Carleton, and it was here that he met and fell in love with Norma, over 30 years ago. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and share their memories at the Daley Family Funeral Home, 6971 Bank St., from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 12th. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Please be advised that COVID-19 precautions are still in effect. All interested in attending the visitation must first declare their intention by pre-registering with the funeral home during business hours at 613-821-2120 or [email protected]

I am a retired gastroenterologist. I knew Frank and twin brother Stewart from the 1950s when we lived on the corner of Mona Drive and Glengrove Avenue and the Carters lived a few doors away on the south side of Glengrove, three houses west of Mona Drive in Toronto. I shared at least one class, possibly several, at John Ross Robertson Public School with Frank and Stewart. We used to play together as young boys. I remember both as assertive, fun and good natured with me who was younger by two years. My memories of any association are positive. I extend sincerest condolences to the Carter family.
