Frank DEMPSEY Obituary

Dempsey, Frank
Passed away on Saturday, June 1st at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. He was the best friend and beloved husband of Colleen for 61 years. Loving and proud father and Grandfather of Jim Dempsey, his wife Carolyn, and children Rebecca and Emily, Bonnie Lockington, her husband Bryan, and children Matthew, Katie and Amanda, and Heidi McKean, her husband David, and children Elli and Brent. Frank was larger than life and lived it to its fullest. A veteran of World War 11, he accepted a football scholarship to the University of Florida. Upon completion of his Bachelor of Arts, he was drafted by the Chicago Bears, where he played for four years. In 1954, he joined the Hamilton Tiger Cat's , and played in the CFL All Star game in 1955. His love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing led to a successful business career in Peterborough, Ontario that spanned 25 years. On retiring, Frank and Colleen continued exploring the world. They traveled in their beloved Pace Arrow motorhome, making new friends across North America. In the mid 90's they settled in Vero Beach, Florida where Frank honed his tennis skills. He was a man who made a difference where ever he landed. In the twilight of his years, he and Colleen resided at the Kensington Retirement Home in Oakville. As was his character, he greeted all with a friendly hello, and a happy and positive attitude. Friends and Family will be received at the Oakview Funeral Home, 56 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville on Wednesday, June 5th, from 10 - 12 p.m followed by a memorial service at 12pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. I am sorry that I was unable to attend the funeral for Frank. I loved him like a father and miss his smile, kind words and gentle giant ways with Colleen. To this day I hear his words, "if I were any better I'd be triplets"!

I always loved Uncle Frank. Although he was my late husbands uncle I always felt close to him & Colleen. Sad to learn of his passing. He gave my husband & I our honeymoon as a wedding gift. Ill always remember him fondly.
