McLAUGHLIN, Frank Carrette (Former owner of Gravenhurst KOA, Professional Engineer, Rotarian)
Peacefully at his home after a great life, in his 85th year, with his children at his side early Saturday, March 19, 2011. Frank Carrette McLaughlin, beloved husband of the late Ann Elizabeth McLaughlin (nee Sprowl); loved and loving father of Mary (Paul) Cook of Gravenhurst, Susan (Anderson) Charters of Orillia and Michael McLaughlin of Gravenhurst; dear grandfather of Matthew, Mary Katherine, Timothy and Elizabeth Charters and Laura, Michael and Kathleen Cook. Frank grew up in Toronto, the son of Wm. Charles and Pamela McLaughlin, brother of Pamela Wright and Elinor Marsales. From infancy he cottaged at Hall's Lake, Haliburton, where he met Ann as a teenager. He graduated from U of T as a Civil Engineer in 1950, married, lived in Willowdale, and built homes in North York, London, and St. Catharines, and for Alcan Canada, before opening the KOA campground and joining the Gravenhurst community. After Ann's death in 2002, his energy and determination, his family, cottage, travel, and friends at the Bracebridge Sportsplex, kept him going. The family will receive friends at the W. J. Cavill Funeral Home, Gravenhurst on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. James' Anglican Church, Gravenhurst, on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Gravenhurst. If desired, donations to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
