Saddened to hear this new today.
Franz was the best art dealer I knew.
I have a few pieces and I treasured his knowledge of the NYC Art scene
He will be missed. Condolences to his family and many friends.

Frans was a man who created projects capable of making ownership of works of art by the world's leading contemporary artists accessible by all. Over the years, as he fought to protect those projects, he remained dedicated to the artists he represented and to the protection of their art.
He was client and friend....and I shall miss him.

Uncle Franz will always be in my heart, I remember every holiday and get-together where he would liven the room with his youthful attitude and incredible stories. He would always enlighten my love for jazz and encourage me to stick with it. Whenever I pick up my saxophone or play a tune on the piano I think of Franz. I will miss you dearly Uncle Franz and I hope to make you proud and happy, like you always were, whenever I play some tunes.

Frans was forever the cool uncle, always warm and charming and game for fun, from Christmas Eve snowball fights to heated conversations about the next big thing in the art world. I’ll miss you, Frans.

I will remember Frans for his light-hearted spirit and generosity. From the moment my sister Joan introduced Frans to our family he became a welcome and willing participant in our gatherings and dinners from indulging the nieces and nephews in their antics to swinging a croquet mallet or tossing bocci balls. Frans had a unique way of making connections and always showed a keen interest in what me and my own family were up to. I’ll never forget the enthusiasm he showed when I earned my CA designation presenting me with a beautiful pen set to mark the occasion. I will miss Frans dearly and will cherish the memories of the good times we shared as a family.

Frans was the kind of person who could walk in to a room and connect with every single person in it. I remember being shy at a family event after returning from a few years of schooling abroad. Frans noticed from across the room and walked over, within a few minutes we were chatting like we had been the best of friends for years. He was kind, funny, and had an infectious lust for life. We will all miss him dearly.

Its hard to imagine a family greet, meet and eat without Frans chucking oysters, beating us at bocce ball and endlessly playing with the kids. He was always taking them on little adventures and we could tell by his huge grin that he enjoyed it more than they did. Then there was the time he supported my struggling small bookkeeping business, insisting that I was his savior for taking him on as a client but really it was him saving me and putting food on our table. He was a great brother-in-law and friend and will always be held closely in my heart. Rest in peace Frans until we see you again!

One of favourite memories of Uncle Frans is that whenever we would “eat, meet, and greet” he would take us kids off to do something fun. On one such excursion we found some skunk weed flowers in bloom and thought it would be so funny if we picked them and brought them back to Auntie Joanie. We thought we were being so cheeky and hilarious, and Uncle Frans was totally on board with our scheme. What a cool uncle! Of course the joke was on us that Auntie Joanie LOVED the flowers- as he absolutely knew she would! Looking back as an adult the memory of Uncle Frans’ smile as she lit up at being presented those flowers, makes me proud. Proud to know my auntie was cherished and loved by someone who knew her so well, because he was first and foremost her friend. And by someone who could also love such mischievous, naughty children! We were so blessed to grow up with Uncle Frans. Taking us on adventures and goofing around with us, always in on our games and jokes, and deftly pointing out and helping to retrieve highly placed Easter candy on epic hunts! Today I saw such a flower in the woods and while I wish I had a picture of that day so long ago, this flower brought back the memories clear as day. Oh, how I will miss Uncle Frans, and keep his memory close to my heart.

I was so sad to hear that Frans has passed away. I have such sweet memories of him, especially from my childhood. I remember always being so excited to see ‘Joan and Frans’ at our big family dinners. He so patiently took us kids on bike rides, indulged us in Easter egg hunts and laughed at every silly thing we said. I will think of him often and miss him very much.

I first met Frans decades ago when he came to visit when my daughter was a newborn. He has been a big part of our family ever since. Frans has been a wonderful uncle and brother-in-law. He always added a special sparkle to family celebrations, and he will be hugely missed.

Uncle Frans
You were a true inspiration. You were one of a kind and nobody can replace your legacy. I am sadden I couldn't say goodbye. I will have your amazing smile and vibe tattooed in me. You were always the life of the family dinners. Love you so much and I miss you so much
I remember when i was 5 or 6 you had these wooden birds. I accidentally broke one. My parents and auntie Joannie tried to scare me by saying uh oh wait till uncle Frans gets home you better confess! You can home 10 mins later , you wanted an explanation on what happened to one of the birds, I blamed Bunty ( the cat ) you all laughed and you gave me hug laughing hard.
I remember You hiring me at one of your art shows was a true honor ! Trusting me a young 19 year old serving wine at one of your shows really ment alot to me.
I miss you so much.
