Franz ROSENBAUM Obituary
ROSENBAUM, Franz Josef
Diplomat, photographer, yachtsman, age 83.
Suddenly on June 9, 2012 after months of struggling with lung cancer. Born near Cologne, Franz learned English in post-war Germany, joined the diplomatic corps and enjoyed postings in Cyprus and Singapore, where he learned to fly his Gipsy Moth. Posted to Chicago from Toronto he left the diplomatic service and turned to photography, becoming internationally acclaimed for his portraits of jazz greats and yachts. His book 'Sails' chronicles in pictures an adventurous sailing life. He was an avid member (or near world champion) of the shark class. Predeceased by his wife, Hedi and parents, Paul and Bertha Rosenbaum. He is survived by his sons, Martin (Lisa) and Richard (Linda) and by grandchildren, Kellan, Paul and Alexis. Also by his loving long-time friend Margaret Jacot. A celebration of Franz's life will take place later at The Boulevard Club.
