FRED SORKIN

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Fred (Fima) Sorkin, on June 20, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Anya. Loving and devoted father of Riva. He will be sadly missed and remembered by his sister-in-law, Tania; brother-in-law, Tilis; nephew, Daniel, and his family; extended family in Israel; and many friends around the world. He was a passionate football ("soccer") fan, loved his cigars, and cherished our beloved dog, Baigel. Hummingbird President and Chief Executive Officer, Fred Sorkin, came to Canada from Lithuania in 1976 following a distinguished career as a computer scientist and Chief of the largest computer manufacturing company. Fred earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Moscow University, as well as two master's degrees in mathematics and electronics from state universities in Vilnius, Lithuania, and is often regarded as the world's most educated computer technology C.E.O.
