Freda JOOSTE Obituary



JOOSTE, Freda Stearns (née Campbell)
On 7 May 2017 in Ottawa, cherished wife of René Jooste since 1948, beloved mother of Morgan and his wife Marvel Sampson, dear grandmother of Emily and Kayleigh. Born in Bathurst, NB, grew up in Timmins, ON. A McGill graduate, she worked for CBC before joining her geologist husband (Alcan) whenever possible. Based in Montreal, their longest postings were in Brazil, Newfoundland and Australia. When René switched to Research, they spent 14 happy years in Arvida where Freda was the high school librarian; on their transfer to Kingston in 1979, Freda volunteered at the Agnes Etherington Arts Centre, CNIB, Pro Arte and KGH, and helped found the Kingston Opera Guild. After René broke his leg they moved to Col By Retirement Residence Ottawa to be nearer to family. After René passed away Freda moved to The Glebe Centre where she spent her final years. Predeceased by René, her Campbell siblings: Keitha (Billie), Bob and his wife Gwen Rose, Arthur and his wife Peggy Armstrong and by René's three brothers and their wives in South Africa. Thanks to caring staff at Col By Residence and the Glebe Centre. Survivors are Arthur's widow, Irene of Almonte and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Service on Friday, May 12 1:00 PM at Southminster United Church, 15 Aylmer Ave., Ottawa, Donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. Interment at a later date.
