FALLIS, Dr. Frederick Brewster
Passed away peacefully, at his beloved Bond Head home on Saturday, August 5, 2000, surrounded by his wife of 54 years, Lois Irene (Bouck) Fallis, his six children, Mary Lou, Dr. Geordie, Bill, Fred Jr., Loie Anne and Betty Joan and his nurse of 35 years Joan Revie. Loved by sons- and daughtersin-law Peter Madgett, Dr. Bev Orser, Johann Cooper, Wendy McQuaig, Steven Dann and Phil Trow. Predeceased by his sister and brother Mary M. Fallis and George Arthur Fallis. ;Boppy as he was affectionately known will be missed by his 14 grandchildren Ben and Anna Madgett, Kevin, Rebecca and Sarah Fallis, Jane Cooper, Jay, Jennie and Murray Fallis, Nico, Robin and Lucas Dann and Dylan and Rachel Trow. Fred B. Fallis was born into a church family in Vancouver, BC, son of Reverend George O. Fallis and Mabel Lavinia (Hockin) on March 28, 1921. His family moved to Toronto in 1933 where his father became minister of what is now known as Trinity-St. Paul's United Church. Flight Lieutenant Fallis joined the RCAF in 1941 and served overseas in Bomber command. He studied Law at the University of Toronto (BA Law 1942) and Medicine (MD 1953), FCFP and CCFP (Fellow and Certificant of the College of Family Physicians of Canada 1969/70). His life-long dedication to Family Medicine began at his private practice in Toronto at Avenue Road and Wilson in 1954 and continued at the St. George Health Centre where as a staff physician Dr. Fallis was seeing patients as recently as in the fall of 1999. A proponent of medical education and hospital teaching programmes, Dr. Fallis was Family Physician-in-Chief at the Toronto General Hospital, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the U of T (1970-1982) and Director and then Assistant Dean of the Department of Continuing Education at the Faculty of Medicine (1981-1985). In 1984 Dr. Fallis became Director of Telemedicine for Ontario and in 1992, Medical Director of Telemedicine Canada. In 1983 he was invited by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to be tour physician and subsequently accompanied the orchestra on several international tours. An avid photographer, Dr. Fallis was known for his numerous slide shows for family and friends. A loyal and energetic chorister, Fred sang in the Toronto Mendelssohn, the Barrie King Edward and Trinity-St. Paul's choirs. At home in Bond Head, Fred enjoyed countless hours cutting grass, planting trees and walking in the woods. Visitation will be held at Trinity-St. Paul's United Church (427 Bloor Street West, Toronto), on Monday, August 7, 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 8, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial service also at the church, on Wednesday, August 9 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Trinity-St. Paul's United Church Organ Fund or The Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
