FREDERICK GEORGE Obituary
DR. GEORGE FREDERICK COULTER
Loving and dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, doctor and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007. Husband of Virginia Shannon Coulter, father of Diana (husband Matt McClure), Carolyn, and Sheila (husband Scott MacNicol), stepfather of Colleen, Michael (wife Rosemarie), and Sean Shannon (wife Ann). Grandfather of Cameron, Duncan, and Liam McClure; Andrew, Laura and Alex MacNicol; Shannon and Adam Hamilton; Kiara and Paul Shannon; Ryan, Kelsey, and Connor Shannon. Born July 24th, 1931 in Toronto to Gertrude and George Irwin Coulter. He graduated from the University of Toronto medical school in 1957 as an honor (AOA) student. Having graduated at the top of the class, he had the option to specialize in any area of medicine, but instead chose to be a general practitioner in the Danforth area, a neighborhood of new Canadians. He also dedicated his days to the Toronto East General Hospital, healing, helping and bringing generations of babies into the world. For 43 years, he was a true family doctor, always generous with house calls, advice or just a helping hand. His boundless energy spilled over to his free time spent playing tennis, cards, skiing, traveling, sailing or just tinkering at his beloved beautiful Gloucester Pool. He loved and lived to be busy, but always had time for friends and family, whom he valued and cherished above all. His enthusiasm, energy and deep, hearty laugh were the essence of who he was. Visitation will be held at the MORLEY BEDFORD FUNERAL HOME, 159 EGLINTON AVENUE WEST, (2 LIGHTS WEST OF YONGE ST.), THURSDAY, JANUARY 25TH, FROM 3 TO 5 PM, AND 7 TO 9 PM. PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 26TH. FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO A RECEPTION FOLLOWING THE FAMILY SERVICE ON FRIDAY AT THE TORONTO LAWN AND TENNIS CLUB, 44 PRICE STREET, FROM 4 UNTIL 7PM. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Toronto East General Hospital.
