Frederick LAMMERICH Obituary

LAMMERICH, Frederick (Fred)

Raised in Berlin, Germany, Fred passed away peacefully surrounded by his family June 18th, 2013 in his 102nd year, at the O'Neill Centre Long Term Care facility, Toronto. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara of 52 years, whose generous and steadfast nature provided an important balance to his life. During his long, healthy and productive life he was an accomplished artist and teacher. While living in Germany he conceptualized and executed large artworks for church interiors, notably the St. Laurentius Church in Braunschweig. Through his personal research as an artist he evolved his own contribution to the practice of abstract painting. His last exhibition titled Motion and Emotion took place in Vancouver at the Burnaby Art Gallery in 2005. He also distinguished himself as Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, receiving the Mary Clair Wishart award for his contribution to the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine in 1976. His family legacy of the creative gene, now into its fourth generation, remains evident in many members of his family. He will be sadly missed by his son Matthew, and daughters Angelika (Holzmueller), Beatrice (Gordy) and Yvonne, sons-in-law Dietmar, Ian and Jamie, daughter-in-law Erin as well as grandchildren Rory, Brian and wife Carm, Michelle and Jessica and great grandchildren Sam and Max. We will be forever entertained and amused by the many stories and situations generated by Fred's (Dad's, Opi's) life. His fiercely passionate determination, infused with philosophical reflections, wit and a sense of humour, never left room for a dull moment. We would like to thank Helen his caregiver over many years whose kindness and support was a great source of comfort for Fred and family. We are also indebted to the entire staff of the O'Neill Centre who cared more than anyone could imagine. Visitation for Frederick will be held at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., Toronto (at Windermere Ave., east of Jane subway) on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the O'Neill Centre would be greatly appreciated.
