Fredrick WHITE Obituary

FREDRICK THORNTON (TED) WHITE March 17, 1935 - August 28, 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fredrick Thornton White (affectionally known as Ted, F.T., Dad, Grampa, and Uncle Ted to his many friends, business colleagues and large extended family) on Saturday, August 28, 2021. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Ted is survived by Shirley, his wife of 64 years, and sister, Maureen McFarlane. He also leaves behind his children, Scott (Brenda), Steve (Linda), Sue Gavarkovs (Greg), Rob (Barb) and Mike (Eva). Ted was adored by his thirteen grandchildren, Kristin (Dylan), Carson, Kelly, Christie (Kyle), Loren (Ryan), Jason, Adam (Naomi), Rob, Will, Bill, Rachel, Hannah (Dan), Nyla and numerous nieces and nephews. We are heartbroken to lose the patriarch of our family. He will be greatly missed but always remembered. Ted was born and educated in Toronto, attending Humberside Collegiate and earning BASc and MBA degrees from the University of Toronto. Ted and Shirley were high school sweethearts, married in 1957, with five kids before they were thirty. He had a very successful career as a salesman, sales and marketing manager and senior executive for companies including IBM, AGT Data, Keydata, Amdahl and Trilogy Systems. He ended his career as a Partner at Ventures West Management, and served as a director for over thirty private and public technology companies. Ted's hobbies and interests included golf, at which he was never very good, and Canadian Art, of which he became an expert as a patron and collector. He was a lifelong learner, with an inquisitive mind, and even authored several self-published books on a variety of topics. He actively supported many charitable organizations including Social Venture Partners, Out of the Cold and the Dorothy Lay Hospice. But of all his many accomplishments, F.T. was most proud of his extended family and took an active interest and role in the lives of his children, son and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and in-laws. We enjoyed summers in Muskoka for over fifty years at various ever-larger cottage properties to accommodate our growing extended family. Ted and Shirley made many friends living in The Kingsway area of Toronto for over fifty years, with winters in Florida for many of those as well. A two-year adventure to California in the early 1980s, where Ted was hired as President of a Silicon Valley start-up, provided some great memories for us all. Special family trips to Disney World, Chicago and other destinations with all the kids and grandkids, and father/son trips to Las Vegas, New Orleans, Nashville/Memphis and Scotland will forever be remembered. We would like to express our gratitude to the amazing staff at Tapestry at Village Gate West and the outstanding care of Susan Gallagher and the Wellness team. A private service will be held for the immediate family, and a larger celebration of Ted's extraordinary life will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made in Ted's memory to KEYS, one of his favourite charitable organizations. (www.westtorontokeys.com)

My sincere condolences to the White family.
As a business partner to his son Rob, I benefited from Ted's wisdom and business advice. I also read his book which I very much enjoyed and found it fascinating as Mr. White reminded me of my own father.
He had an impressive business career but his character, integrity and the values he passed on to his children is even more impressive.
May he rest in peace

I think frederick was the amazing grandfather i ever had because he was very smart and very positive and very optimistic about things in his life. And he was the amazing grandfather to 13 grand kids and the great father to 5 kids. And I think grandpa was amazing because he loved playing with us when we were little and he was a barney the dinosaur fan and he did a lot of charity work like down in the cold and he even did a lot of amazing santa gigs at our christmas parties because he loved to give us gifts and presents for christmas! And one time my grandpa went to buffalo new york to buy us some barney dolls for us to play with because we were barney fans too and grandpa really loved barney a lot! And now from this day forward we're all going to miss our grandfather so much because he really loved kids a lot and if he was alive today he would have been very proud of my accomplishments and everything that we adjusted especially during COVID-19 last year! so goodbye grandpa! and we love you grandpa!

I think frederick was the great grandpa i ever had because he was the amazing grandfather to 13 grand kids and the great father to 5 kids. And I think grandpa was amazing because he loved kids a lot and he loved playing with us when we were little and he was a big barney the dinosaur fan because one time in christmas 1993 before i was born he went to buffalo new york to buy us some barney dolls for my sisters to play with, and when i came to the world i was a barney fan too because grandpa loved watching barney on tv with us and we learned a lot from him and if you're the barney fan like grandpa was everywhere you go you often stop to look at the toy store window to see a lot of barney products and merchandises like barney dolls and barney books and barney videos and barney bed sheets. And now from this day forward we're all going to miss our grandfather very much because he was very smart and very positive and very optimistic about things in his life. And i'm going to miss his santa gigs at our christmas parties the most because he loved giving us gifts and presents for christmas! of course! so goodbye grandpa! we love you grandpa!

I was an executive assistant to Ted ( and Gerry Wanless) at AGT for a couple of years. There was a lot of projects on the go but it was a great learning experience. Ted, in particular, was a great boss and I certainly admired him. I moved overseas and lost touch but have nothing but good memories. My condolences.
