G. WILLIAM STRATTON (Bill) October 4, 1926 - March 28, 2019 Only hours after giving an impromptu tutorial on Macbeth to his granddaughter, Bill passed away peacefully with family at his side. Predeceased by sister, Dorothy; niece, Ann; and granddaughter, Natalie. Thank you to palliative care physician Dr. Leah Steinberg and the teams at Mount Sinai and Bridgepoint. A celebration of life is to be held at Alumni Hall, Victoria College Building (91 Charles St. W.) Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. Donations can be made to Mount Sinai Hospital or UNHCR (The UN Refugee Agency) to which Bill donated regularly.

A former student (Scarlett Heights,) I just learned of Mr Stratton's death. A fine man and a great teacher who always brought a bit of sly fun into the classroom. He'll be missed.

Bill was a wonderful man, dear friend and fine educator. It was my great privilege to work with Bill in Etobicoke when he was English Coordinator and I was Special Education Consultant. He was brilliant in so many ways and a fine mentor and friend. His bottom line was always what was best for kids and learning. He made a huge difference in the lives of many, leaving a fine legacy in schools across the province. Thank you Bill. Condolences to the family. Barb. Mc

Many fond and precious memories to relive over the 53 years we have known each other. Bill was a huge part of my life in teaching, as a dear friend and as an inspiration. Bill has left an indelible mark on countless lives whenever and wherever he touched them and for that we are grateful. I shall miss him immensely.

Whether he taught us in class or directed us in one of his great plays at Scarlett Heights, "Uncle Bill" was brilliant and funny and approachable. His love of literature and critical thinking was inspirational. Ironically, I was thinking of him last week in Bermuda, when I came across a commemorative plaque at Fort St. Catherine which noted that "in 1610 Shakespeare's Macbeth was produced in London just 3 years before the first fort was erected on this site. In 1953 the Bard's tragedy was enacted in this fort" with Charlton Heston appearing as Macbeth and Burgess Meredith directing. I was about to email Bill about that, and renew my invitation to take him to a play at Stratford this season when I heard the sad news. I will miss him, as will hundreds of other students whose lives he touched. A lovely man.

When asked who my favourite teacher was, I always said Mr. Stratton. He brought Shakespeare to life for me. The world was lucky to have him. The students at Scarlett Heights in the 1970's were fortunate to have been taught by such a great man and educator.
