Gabriel Racle Obituary
GABRIEL LOUIS RACLE 1928 - 2021 Passed away peacefully in Ottawa on July 10, 2021, at the age of 93. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Fernande in 1998. Loving father of Joel (Sophie), Stéphane, the late Yannick (1996), and grandpa to Émilie and Chloé. Born in Sombacour, France, the son of Camille and Jeanne Racle, Gabriel immigrated to Canada in the 1960s after meeting Fernande in Paris. Settling in Ottawa to raise a family, Gabriel spent a long career in the Language Training Branch of the Public Service Commission of Canada. Departing to pursue various training and consulting opportunities in the field of language instruction, Gabriel was also devoted to bettering education, serving for many years as a Trustee, and ultimately as the President of the Ottawa Carleton French Public School Board. Editor of the Canadian Wildlife Federation magazine Biosphere, Gabriel remained active in his later years as a translator and as a regular contributor to L'Express de Toronto. He is the author of several publications. A visitation will take place at Hulse, Playfair, and McGarry - St. Laurent Chapel, 1200 Ogilvie Road, on Sunday, July 18, 2021, from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. A funeral service will follow in the chapel on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 2 p.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, those who wish to attend either the service or visitation must RSVP on our website just below the obituary for Mr. Racle.
