Gamila Morcos ended her 96-year journey on this earth on August 15, 2024. She was born in Cairo, Egypt, on December 24, 1927. Gamila Morcos is an award-winning Canadian academic who worked most of her life at the Faculté Saint-Jean at the University of Alberta, as Dean, as well as at Laurentian University in Sudbury. She was the first woman to be appointed to a senior administrative position at Laurentian University. She is known for having designed and written "Dictionnaire Des auteurs et Artistes Francophones de l 'Ouest Canadien" and authored multiple publications. Gamila was an amazing mother to Chak Morcos, Nagui Morcos (deceased), and Sam Morcos; and sister to Samiha Tawfik (deceased), Nadia Roweis (deceased), and Shoukry Roweis.
