HYDE, Geoffrey
Succumbed to pancreatic cancer on August 8, 2002, in Montgomery County, Maryland. Born in Toronto, Ontario in 1930, Dr. Hyde graduated from Engineering Physics at the University of Toronto, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a significant member of the team that designed the AVRO ARROW, and later, of the group that built the first Lunar Landing Module. He was well-known as a Senior Scientist with COMSAT in Washington, D.C. and was in demand world-wide as a lecturer in his field of expertise. Predeceased by his son Philip Ralph Hyde, Dr. Hyde is survived by his loving wife Rhoda (nee Phillips), his devoted daughter-in-law Karen Hyde, son Dr. Thomas Michael Hyde, daughter and son-in-law Carol Deborah and Teguin Hyde Jones of London, England, his beloved grandchildren Hayes and Harrison Hyde and Megan Jones, and his loving sister and brother-in-law Barbara (nee Hyde) and Bernard Berger.
Interment and services will take place on Sunday, August 11, 2002 at the Home of Peace Cemetery in Colman, California. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (416-440-3322) or the Canadian Wildlife Federation (1-800-563-9453) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
