After high-school, George's formal musical education started before the war with his father, continued after with Dr. Charles Peaker in Toronto, followed by a short time with the Guildhall School of Music (England). From 1942-1945 George served in the RCAF as an air- frame mechanic at various bases around Canada. While studying in Toronto, George was Organ Scholar at Wycliffe college where he made numerous life-long friends. From 1955 until he retired in 1984, he was the Vocal Music and Music Appreciation teacher at Verdun High School. In 1984, George and Joan retired in Burlington, Ontario. For 10 years or so, George filled in at various churches during vacations and as Interim Organist at St. George's-on-the-Hill and at All Saints', Kingsway (twice). Enormous credit is due to Tansley Woods, Burlington, for the care and attention they gave George. George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan (Porter), and is survived by his three children, James, Mary (Doug) Keyes and John, his 7 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren.
