CRAIG, George Black, B.A.Sc. (1949), M.A.Sc. (1950), Ph.D. (1952), P.Eng.
Passed away peacefully at the Trillium Health Centre on Wednesday, April 14, 2004. George was a professor emeritus at the University of Toronto in Metallurgy and Materials Science. He served as a navigator with the R.C.A.F. in Canada, England, India, and Burma (Squadron 436) from 1941-1946, and was honourably discharged with the rank of Flight Lieutenant. George received the A.P.E.O. Sons of Martha medal – the Queen's Canadian Silver Jubilee medal, and was an A.S.M. Fellow and Canadian Council Distinguished Lecturer. In 1994, he was inducted into the Engineering Alumni Hall of Distinction. He was the beloved husband of Norma, loving father to Stephen (Mary), Barry (Susan), and Cathy. He leaves his grandchildren, Michael, Jamie, Jeffrey, David, Allison and Christie. He leaves also his sister Dorothy, brother John McCulloch and the late Gordon Craig (Christine), Bob, Bill and Alex. George is resting at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Service to be held at All Saints Kingsway Anglican Church, 2850 Bloor Street West, on Monday, April 19, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery. In Dr. Craig's memory, donations may be made to the George B. Craig Scholarship fund for Metallurgy and Materials Science, University of Toronto, 35 St. George Street, Room 149, Toronto M5S 1A4, or to the Coronary Care Unit, The Trillium Health Centre, 100 Queensway West, Mississauga, Ontario L5B 1B8. The family thanks the doctors and nurses for their exceptional care in the Coronary Care Unit.
