GEORGE DOMINY Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of George, on September 20, 2025, at the age of 88. Beloved husband, father, papa and friend, he is survived by his wife, Ann, of 60 years; his two children, Stephen (Jocelyn Soutter) and Caroline (Cam Levitt); and his grandchildren, Katherine, Robert and Charlotte. Predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Charlotte Dominy; his sister, Bridget; and identical twin brother, John. George was born in Darjeeling, India; at the age of twelve, the family returned to England, where George and John attended boarding school at Berkhamsted Boys School, and from there he won a state and Shell scholarship to attend Pembroke College, Cambridge. He participated in various activities at Cambridge, including tennis and rowing (coxswain), and obtained his master's in mathematics. While working in Chester at Shell he met his beloved wife, Ann. They married in 1965, and relocated to Toronto in 1969 with their two children. After a distinguished career in public service, George retired as Vice Chair of the Ontario Energy Board. A devoted father, George was heavily involved in teaching Stephen and Caroline tennis, as well as volunteering with their activities including Boy Scouts, figure skating, hockey and supporting their educational pursuits. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, watching their hockey games, concerts and ice shows, taking them to attractions and museums around Toronto, tobogganing at Sherwood Park, or playing board games at home. In his later years, George enjoyed the time he and Ann shared at the Lawrence Park Lawn Bowling Club, including acting as President of the Club. Always the gentleman, George was exceedingly kind and humble. He will be dearly missed. Visitation on Monday, September 29th, 6:00-8:00 p.m., and funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 30th, 11:00 a.m., at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. West (two lights west of Yonge St.), followed by reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Sunnybrook Foundation.
