George PROKOS Obituary
PROKOS, George Basil
On Saturday, August 5th, 2000, of complications arising from cancer, in his 75th year. George will be profoundly missed by his wife, Eleanor C. Ross, his sister, Marnie O'Riordan, his brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Marjess Prokos and a wide circle of colleagues, friends and neighbours. George was a great catalyst and communicator who participated joyously in bringing people and ideas together. His strong sense of fairness led him to seek justice for himself and others. He was a consummate entrepreneur. He sought opportunities for himself and others. He was a friend to all ages, races and religions and touched innumerable lives. His visual sensibility was evident wherever he lived. His friends can attest to his wicked sense of humour. George, born in Hamilton of Greek parents, lived most of his life in Toronto. He graduated in 1949 from McMaster University and spent much of his career working in the public relations field for public and private organizations. He loved playing music and dancing. Latterly, he derived much pleasure from his work as an actor in both films and television and as an artists' model. There will be a private burial. At George's request, a memorial event celebrating his life will be held in about a month's time when friends, neighbours and their children are warmly invited to share their stories and memories. Donations in his memory may be made to Interlink Community Cancer Nurses, 620 University Avenue, Suite 701, Toronto, Ontario M5G 2C1 or the Trinity Home Hospice, Box 324, Commerce Court Postal Station, Toronto, Ontario M5L 1G3.
