GEORGE SCROGGIE Obituary

(July 1930 - January 2026) Donald Scroggie, a thoughtful gentleman, died in his 96th year. A distinguished resident of the Summerhill and the Yonge and St. Clair areas, he was often seen riding his bicycle to Bay Street in his three-piece suit, smoking his pipe, with a rose in his buttonhole. He will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, intelligence and quick wit. Possessed of a natural curiosity, he was an insatiable reader and loved engaging in conversations with all those he encountered. He attended Brown Public School, UTS, Trinity College class of '51, Osgoode Law School and was called to the Bar in 1955. He practiced at Fraser and Beatty (later Dentons) and finished as a Justice of the Peace. Predeceased by his parents, Col. George Thompson and Catherine Scroggie; his second wife, Wendy; and his daughter, Kate. He is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Joy, sister, Susan and her husband, Rob Metcalfe; brother, David and his wife, Patricia Scroggie; as well as his first wife, Helen Scroggie, and their daughter, Martha. Special thanks to Donald's "Blue Birds." In lieu of flowers, donations to Scott Mission or Daily Bread Food Bank would be appreciated.

A true gentleman. He was a classmate of my long time partner Aldo Braida who crossed over January 19, 2022. I reckon they are reunited in the hereafter listening to Prof. Smalley-Baker pontificating on sundry legal subjects, as was his wonted custom That generation, the Class of '55 was filled with many giants of the Ontario legal profession, one of whom was the irreplacable Donald. Condolences to the family Ron Henry, called to the Bar in 1975, Acton Ontario

I worked with George when we were dealing with the Greymac files. This was at the office of Ian W. Outerbridge. I was very sorry to hear of George“s passing.
