George SWINTON Obituary

SWINTON, George R.C.A., LL.D., C.M.
Peacefully, on April 21st, George died due to complications caused by congestive heart failure. Mourning his loss, yet content that he is no longer suffering are twin daughters Nelda (Bruno & Alexandre St. Jean) and Moira (Bernie Léveillé), brother Hans (Marcia, Paul, Peter (Tina, Nicholas & Natalie), Mark (Susie), sister-in-law Eileen (Pat, Kathy & Terry), as well as many dear friends and former students. Dad always celebrated life and encouraged others to do the same. His zest, convictions, compassion, and love for humanity were ever present. He was very proud to have been awarded the Order of Canada, a Doctorate of Laws at the University of Manitoba, as well as Professor Emeritus at Carleton University. Dad spent his last six months at Bethania Personal Care Home. We wish to thank them for their loving care. Also thanks to the many health care professionals who tended to and cared for Dad over the years. Instead of a funeral, Dad wanted a celebration of life to be held at The Art Collector's Club, 421 McDermot Ave. in Winnipeg. Space will be limited. The celebration will be between 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the George Swinton Memorial Fund c/o the Department of Private Funding, room 179 ConEd Complex, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg MB R3T 2N2.
