George TRUSLER Obituary

George Aubrey Trusler III "Geordie" BSc, Peng, MBA May 18, 1955 - October 16, 2023 On Monday, October 16, 2023, Geordie passed away peacefully, with the love of his life, Kary Firstbrook by his side, after a long and courageous battle with Leukaemia. A lifetime skier, hard working investor, avid sailer and boater, skilled mechanical engineer and a fairly decent golfer. Geordie lived by the motto, 'you work hard and you play hard,' and he did this in the two places he called home, Whistler, BC, and Go Home Bay, Georgian Bay. Geordie starting skiing at a very young age at Osler Bluff Ski Club. In his youth, he competed in alpine skiing, ski jumping, and raced on the Ontario XC Ski Team. But after a taste of west coast powder while attending UBC, he caught the bug, and many years later he made the move with his family to Whistler, BC. There, he and his Kary raised their kids in the mountains. Geordie was so passionate for skiing and Whistler that you couldn't get him off it. He skied 180+ days a year for 20 years, and in his early 60s, he managed over 6.5 million vertical feet in one winter. Geordie continued to ski race every winter, and his team managed to win the famous Peak 2 Valley ski race in their category 10 times. Although he always attributed that to the fact that his wife, Kary, was the fastest woman on the course. Geordie and Kary also gave back to the community of racing as volunteer course slippers for Whistler and World Cup Races, and the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics in Whistler. In 2019, they moved to Rossland, BC, seeking a quieter pace in a smaller ski town. Geordie was a gifted academic. He attended Whitney Public School, Deer Park, Jarvis Collegiate and Lake Roseau school for boys. Afterwards, he attended UBC, Guelph university, University of Toronto, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and then the Ivey School of Business at UWO. He was a talented mathematician and went on to become a corporate financier, specializing in mining, and oil and gas with Research Capital, McCarthy Securities, First Delta Securities and Canaccord Capital. Geordie was a keen sailor and very competent mariner. He spent his summers and falls at his cottage in Go Home Bay and exploring Georgian Bay and the North Channel. It was a place that was close to family and he felt it was the most beautiful place in the world. He loved to hunt and fish and watch the storms come in. He loved the weather. Whether its was watching the water for squalls or following the wind patterns to find the best snow on the mountains, he was always enamoured with it. He was the first born son of Constance Sparrow and Dr. George Aubrey Trusler II. He was predeceased by his mother, Connie; aunt, Jane Maher; and father-in-law, William Firstbrook. He will be sadly missed by his lifetime partner and loving wife, Kary; their eldest son, George Aubrey Trusler IV (Jay) (Amy); and granddaughters, Waverly and Winnifred; sons, Cricky and Robby Trusler; his father, Dr. George Aubrey Trusler II (Doreen Pemberton); mother-in-law, Lorna Firstbrook; and his brothers, Eugene (Laurie), David and Andrew (Tamar); sister, Katie (David); Firstbrook brothers-in-law, Will (Laurie), Don, Bryan (Stephanie) and Pete (Christine); nephews, Thomas, Graham, Connor, Scottie, Evan, Joey, Jono, Daniel and Cole; nieces, Julia and Gemma, Amanda, Audrey, Megan and Claire; stepbrother, Roger; stepsisters, Maryjane and Tina (Andy); and stepnieces, Taylor and Paige. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 22nd at Osler Bluff Ski Club (main lodge) from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. In the future, there will be a celebration of life in Whistler to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to his favourite charities, Georgian Bay Forever, Whistler SAR (Search and Rescue) or to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. Dear Kary,
I am thankfull to M. Heath who forwarded to the MBA 85 that information even if it was not pleasant at all to be confronted to such a sad piece of news.
Even with the distance (from Switzerland) very difficult to forget Goerdie who was such a strong character and driving personality. A true demonstartion of : take life as it comes, so take it easy but take it.
Karry we encountered a few times in London when you did come obver from Oakville for week-end parties.
Take care of yourself and yours

Geordie was in my MBA class at Western. He stood out ... for sure. Always unapologetically true to himself, assured, principled, respectful of others, with that infectious zest for life. Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Geordie was in my section in MBA at Western. I'll never forget my first time eating duck was at Geordie's and it was chock full of buckshot. Didn't lose any teeth but it was close. My condolences to the family.

I was fortunate to be able to spend 2 years in London, Ontario attending the University of Western Ontario MBA program. It was here that I met Geordie as we shared the first year together in Section1. Geordie loved life and never let the drudgery of assignments drag him down and always found a way to laugh and enjoy life. I still have great memories of the moments with him. He had a way of pulling you in with his infectious smile. You knew this smile would lead to fun and laughter. May condolences to Kary and the entire family. He will certainly be missed and may he rest in peace.

It was 40 years ago, this past September, when Geordie and I began our studies in Western's MBA program - we were in Section 1 together during our first year. Geordie was one of those classmates you never forget and I am saddened to learn of his passing. I'm sure that he would have preferred to get in many more hours on the ski slopes. One consolation we have is that he lived life to the fullest. Sincerest condolences to his wife and family.

I am sure he will be sorely missed, a larger than life character. He used to come up from UBC on weekends to a small log cabin on the other side of Alta lake I was renting. As always with Geordie, crazy fun times ensued. My condolences to his parter Kary and extended family on their loss.
