KANAWATY, Georgette (nee Bookalam) Born December 2nd, 1919 in Montreal, died August 13, 2008 in Toronto.
Georgette passed away with her husband George and two sons Kevin and Shane O'Leary at her side at the Toronto General Hospital in the late afternoon on Wednesday, August 13th from complications of a heart attack. Georgette was a remarkable woman who lived life to the fullest until the day she died. As the wife of an ILO official, she raised her family in Cambodia, Tunisia, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Canada and Switzerland. She never lost her wanderlust and after she and her husband retired in Duillier, Switzerland she continued to travel visiting friends and family. She touched the lives of many people with her pragmatic view of the world and she remained active supporting causes that aided children in developing countries. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, August 17. A funeral for Georgette will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18 in ST. GEORGE ANTIOCHIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH, 9116 Bayview Avenue, Richmond Hill, Ontario, L4B 3M9. Private interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, dontations to UNICEF Canada, 2200 Yonge Street, Suite 1100, Toronto, Ontario, M4S 2C6 would be appreciated.
