GEORGINA McCANCE Obituary

(nee Davey) "Always putting others first" Peacefully, on October 4, 2024, at 105.5 years, in her Toronto residence. Always proud of her roots, she was born March 27, 1919, in St. Thomas, ON, to George Davey and Mabel Davey (nee Lockhart). Predeceased by her middle child, Christopher James (1978); and her husband, William Meek McCance (1988). She is survived by son, William Davey (Deborah); and daughter, Anne Louise (Bryan); grandchildren, Jaclyn (Dan), Jamie (Rich), and Micheal (Meghan); as well as her "GG's," Ben, Drew, Alden and Myles; and step-grands too. A U of T grad and involved alumnus, she was secretly recruited for one of her most intriguing employs with The BSC (headed by Canadian Sir William Stephenson). Off she went to NYC during WWII! Married in 1951, spent "many happy days" homemaking and raising three active children on the banks of Lake Huron, leaving Sarnia in 1966 to Don Mills, then other central Toronto locations. So lucky to have a second romance later in life with a gentleman suitor from her pre-war camper days at Taylor Statten Camp (Algonquin Park). We are delighted to keep "the late" Meredith and his family dear to our hearts. The family gratefully extends our thanks to her care team: Bradgate Arms PSWs, nursing and all staff, SRT Med-Staff, VHA. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to: WWF-Canada or UNHCR Canada. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Center on Saturday, November 2,2024, from 4-6 p.m., with interment in the Rose Garden for those who wish to join at 3 p.m. sharp. She was "Mom #2" during our youth, when I was lucky enough to spend school holidays with the McCances in Don Mills. What fun we had - she always thought of great adventures for us, such as a flight in a small plane over Toronto. Always tolerant of Anne and I trying to be late for the trip to Union Station for my train ride home to Sarnia... I have so many many fond memories and cherish a recent card she sent me. Yes, a fascinating woman, strong, funny, kind, and alive, with her very interesting "secret" job in NYC. I hear her laugh as I write and have her picture, below, from my parents' 50th, on the fridge. Much love to Bill and Anne and your families. Jane

To the McCance family, I knew your parents from being nearby neighbours back in the `50´s, and having worked with them in the `office´ on Friday mornings in the `60´s. My sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. She was certainly blessed with a long and productive life.
