Gerald HALBERT Obituary

Peacefully, on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the age of 90, with his loving wife Tootsie of 64 years by his side. Beloved father and father-in-law of Wendy and Gary (Silverberg) and Michelle and Stanley (Marcovici) and proud Papa of Matthew Silverberg, Justin, Corey and Samantha Hacker. Predeceased by his parents Hy and Faye Halbert; his brother, Ralph and his sister Rhoda Brown. Adored by his brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Gerry was a devoted family man, a genuine friend, a respected Dentist, an exemplary community leader, fundraiser and true mensch. He wanted to make a difference in the community and give back, which was a life-long passion. From UJA (United Jewish Appeal), to Hebrew University, University of Toronto and UHN (University Health Network), his commitment to Israel and Canada was unwavering. In recognition of his devotion to community, Gerry was invested to the Order of Canada in 2002, at a ceremony in Victoria, BC. Our many thanks to the amazing Perla, May and Jane for their support and loving care. We love you Gerry, always and forever. At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West (3 lights west of Dufferin) for service on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. Interment at Beth Tzedec Memorial Park. As I read of Gerry´s death in today´s Globe, I looked at the beautiful sculpture Tootsie, who crafted it, and Gerry gave to us on the occasion of our wedding in 1979 (Nora Bowman/Alan James Rae). Tootsie´s artistry has graced our various homes as we moved over the years. Alan died this July at age 99, we always thought of the Halberts with respect and admiration. Nora Bowman
