GERALD McCARTHY Obituary

November 3, 1929 - December 18, 2025 Gerald James McCarthy, retired judge of the Quebec Court of Appeal, has died. Son of the late Eugene McCarthy and the late Mary Curran, he was predeceased by his sister, Shirley McCarthy; and is survived by his sister, Eleanor McCarthy Craig, and by several cousins and their families. Funeral Mass to be held at the Ascension of Our Lord Church, 375 Kitchener Avenue, Westmount, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. May he rest in peace.

Le juge McCarthy a été mon collègue à la Cour d'appel du Québec. Un collègue apprécié de tous, sans exception! Un gentilhomme, affable et doté d'un bon sens de l'humour. Un modèle de rigueur et de concision pour nous, ses collègues. Il avait une manière bien à lui de réfléchir. Il tournait sa chaise vers une fenêtre de son bureau et il regardait au loin, vers le Mont Royal. Immobile pendant plusieurs minutes, jusqu'à ce qu'il soit prêt à écrire sa décision. À sa soeur Eleanor, et à ses neveux et nièces, ainsi qu'à tous ceux et celles qui ont aimé Gerald McCarthy, mes plus sincères sympathies.
