GERALD SHEPPARD Obituary

GERALD T. SHEPPARD Ph.D. Professor of Old Testament Literature and Exegesis, Director of Advanced Degree Studies, Emmanuel College, University of Toronto. Gerald, known as Jerry, left us suddenly on November 15, 2003 in his 57th year. Jerry was the loving husband of Anne, beloved father of two sons, David (deceased) and Stephen, and cherished stepfather of Elisabeth. Jerry was a sweet, funny, brilliant man with a passion for the Old Testament, particularly wisdom literature. He was an engaging and dedicated teacher and scholar whose publications are widely recognized in his field. As a friend he was generous and loyal and will be deeply missed. Jerry is also survived by his family in the U.S.; his parents, Thomas and Emma Sheppard, sister Sandi Rice and brother Bill Sheppard. He leaves brothers and sisters-in-law across the U.S.; David Rice, Anders and Lynn Smith, Tom and Leah Nelson, Jay and Jeannette Smith, and mother-in-law Suzanne Smith. He will be lovingly remembered by his niece and nephews. His absence will leave a hole in all our hearts. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at Ralph Day Funeral Home, 180 Danforth Avenue from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity St.-Paul's United Church, 427 Bloor Street West on Friday, November 21, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations to the Emmanuel College Bursary Fund would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
