Gerard LANGEREIS Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerard D. Langereis in Calgary on April 1, 2024. He was a devoted partner to wife, Margaret; caring father to daughter, Ann (Doug) and son, Rick (Laurette); loving Opa/Abba to Shannon, Jordan, Shelby, Brittany, and Nicholas; and great-grandfather to Kai. Born in 1927, Gerry was raised in Enschede, the Netherlands. He graduated from the University of Delft with an MSc in Civil Engineering. After immigrating to Canada, they would move 26 times over the next 40 years. Gerry's work spanned the globe, from Colombia and India to Lesotho and Iran. The family would enjoy the regional culture of each country they lived in and travelled throughout. Gerry maintained a love of music throughout his life and never missed a chance to tickle the ivories. He was the ultimate handyman and the perfect house guest, neighbour, and father, always ready to put his travelling toolkit to work. He was a proud member of Rotary for 25 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Gerard enjoyed camping and sailing. He had an appetite for great food and a good glass of wine or whiskey. He was particularly fond of dishes with apples. He stayed in touch with friends from his student years, while also enjoying the company of the many friends he made in Canada and overseas over the last seven decades. He was a quiet man, very introspective and informed. He had a great sense of humour, was blessed with a dry and quick wit, and was an excellent friend. Please raise a glass in his memory. An informal get-together of family and friends will happen in July.

My memories of Gerry are mostly of him tinkering around the cottage in Port Carling. Some of his " tinkering" were some pretty big projects. Always busy and helpful... will be miss ed. Sincere condolences to all the family.

Our sadness is mixed with many happy/funny memories with Gerry, Margaret and the entire Langereis family...Montebello (falling off the back of the horse drawn sleigh), Riviera Maya (wearing that ridiculous napkin hat for his 90th birthday party), Bedford (quietly navigating his way to the food stations), and so many more! It was our good fortune to have become part of the family, beginning with first meeting in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and continuing for 60+ years. Gerry lives on in our hearts and minds. Sincere condolences to Margaret, Ann, Rick and the entire family, Bernie & Christine

Sad news. It's been quite a while since we last met . His passing
leaves a big hole in your family. Margreet, I know you as a strong person,
but wish you all the best to get through the difficult years to come.
