GERRY SPERLING

Our beloved Gerry Sperling passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at MacKenzie Health Hospital, Richmond Hill, at age 87. He was famous for his quick wit, humour, and commitment to a just society. Gerry grew up in Toronto and attended the University of Toronto and the University of Wisconsin. For many years, he was a popular Professor of Political Science at the University of Regina. During this time, he was well-known as an entertaining and perceptive commentator on radio and television including Peter Gzowski's CBC talk show. He took early retirement to become the executive producer of 4 Square Entertainment, eventually overseeing 45 hours of quality documentary films. He loved fishing almost as much as debating politics. Most important, he was a man adored by almost everybody he met. He leaves his wife, Maggie Siggins; his daughters, Shoshana Sperling and Carrie-May Siggins; his son, Adam Sperling; his brother, Stephen Sperling; his sister, Maxine Munro; and five grandchildren who loved their Zaydi.
