Gina WILKINSON Obituary

GINA CLARE WILKINSON On December 30th, 2010, peacefully, at Princess Margaret Hospital, after a brief but heroic battle with cancer. At her side were her husband and great love, Tom Rooney (m. Dec. 19th, 2010), and devoted friends, Lindsay Leese and Susan Stackhouse. Gina adored her family; mother Marie Wilkinson (nee Maggioria), brothers Adam and Martin and their children Dylan, Ryan, Sarah and Mathew. Predeceased by her father, the painter Jack Wilkinson (d. 2007) Gina was born in Victoria in 1960 and until the very end lived life fully and with panache. Graduating from the National Theatre School (1982) Gina worked across Canada as an actor in film, TV, radio and theatre. She was also a spectacularly gifted playwright, director and dramaturge. Gina was an extraordinary human and friend; fiercely intelligent and funny; always caring and cooking; inspiring devotion from everyone who knew her. A memorial will be held Monday, January 24th at 3 p.m., Jane Mallett Theatre, 27 Front St. E., Toronto. Donations to help establish the Gina Wilkinson Award for Emerging Female Directors can be made payable to 'Ontario Arts Foundation - In memory of Gina Wilkinson' and sent to the Ontario Arts Foundation, 151 Bloor Street West, 5th Floor, Toronto Ontario, M5S 1T6, Attention: Alan Walker, Executive Director.
