GLADYS GERTRUDE HAMER (JOHNSTON) Peacefully, on December 7, 2010, in her 93rd year. Loved and was much loved by her children Kathy, Margot, and David, and by her children-in-law Jane Hamer and Peter Edwards. Beloved 'gentle Nanna' to six grandchildren: Craig (Melissa) and Kristin Muir; Katie and Meghan Edwards; Sarah (Byron) and Alison Hamer; and very proud great-grandmother of Lauren Muir. Predeceased by her husband Ian Malcolm Hamer (2002), her parents Gertrude and Harry Johnston (1963), and her brothers Bruce Johnston (1992), and Ian Johnston (killed in Normandy, August 1944). Her sunny disposition, steadfast optimism, quiet strength, unconditional love and support for family were an example to us all. The last of her generation of Hamers and Johnstons, she will be deeply missed and long remembered. In memory of Gladys, the family would appreciate donations to the Onawaw-Margaret Govan Endowment fund, which provides assistance to girls attending YMCA Camp Wabanaki, on the site of the former Camp Onawaw.
