PHELPS, Glen William Completed his life journey in Orillia on March 21, 2009 in his 96th year. Glen was predeceased by his beloved Wife, Rita in 2000. Loving and happy memories are shared by his children, Bill (June Shaw), Tom (Isabell Isles), Ross (Jo-Anne Rix) and Mary Girard, Vic Girard, his grandchildren, Stephanie, Debbie Ford, Jeffrey, Glen, Andrew, Jennifer MacPhee, Kevin Girard, Mary Katharine, Julie McFarlane, and Christopher Girard, by eight adoring great grandchildren and the extended W. J. Brown family. His business career started at Otaco where he worked with over 1000 Orillians in the production of defence materiel for WW2. Post- war production ranged from foundry castings through farm equipment, and to consumer products ranging from toys to boat trailers and lawn mowers. Glen's notable contributions to the community included decades of leadership and support to the Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, YMCA, St. Paul's United Church, VON and many community projects. For these he was recognized in 1962 as Orillia's Citizen of the Year. His leadership in the health care system included Presidency of the Ontario Hospital Association, and directorships on The Canadian Hospital Association and the Ontario Council of Health. As patriarch of the family, Dad gave loving, supportive interest to the evolving lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the Brown family. We all appreciated his good humour, entertaining stories, historical perspective and wise counsel. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to his remarkable corps of caregivers including Sheila, Mabel, Dorcas, Zeny, Mae, Norma, Nannette and his 'buddies', Dan and Charlie, all of whom made it possible for Father to enjoy the passing seasons from his own home on Lake Couchiching. Special thanks also to Dr. J. Tazzeo and the medical staff at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia on Monday, March 23, 7-9; Tuesday, March 24, 2-4 and 7-9 and on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 1 p.m. until time of a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church, 62 Peter Street North, Orillia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Orillia YMCA, or the charity of your choice. Messages of condolence are welcomed at
