GLENNA MARGUERITE DOHERTY AZUMA

1936 - 2024

Glenna Marguerite Azuma (née Doherty), 87, passed away on September 4, 2024, in Toronto after a brief illness. Born on October 17, 1936, in Phelpston, Ontario, Glenna grew up in Glen Williams with her beloved mother, Myrtle; and older brothers, William and John. She moved to Toronto to begin her career in advertising and caught the eye of Dr. Richard "Dick" Azuma who lived on the same floor of an apartment building on Avenue Rd. After many dates and late-night talks, they were married in 1962 and had three children, Stephen, Robert, and Katie. Glenna lived a full life dedicated to family, beauty, travel, and friendship. She devoted her life to supporting her children and grandchildren through their various pursuits. Glenna was a prolific reader, an avid gardener, and delighted in antiquing. Music was a great passion for Glenna who sang in the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and was a great supporter of the TSO. She loved to play bridge with her treasured bridge group. Through their 51-year marriage, Glenna and Dick traveled widely, and lived in Toronto, France, California, Vancouver, and Indiana. Everywhere she went, Glenna forged lasting friendships. Those who knew her will forever treasure her beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes, sharp wit, wise counsel, and joyful hospitality. Glenna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard. She is survived by her three children, Stephen (Janet Gunn), Robert (Darlene Broderick), and Katie (Paul Howard); her cherished grandchildren, Cameron, Keira, Meredith, and Alexandra; her extended family, and dear friends. She will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to thank the care team at St. Joseph's Hospital for their kindness and superb care of Glenna during her illness and MAiDHouse for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, a gift to the Palliative Care Team at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
