GLORIANNE STROMBERG 1939 - 2023 Glorianne Stromberg, a distinguished lawyer, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023, in Toronto. Born in Montreal in 1939, Glorianne spent her formative years in the heart of Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Oscar and Rhoda, and her dear sister, Patricia. Glorianne was survived by her siblings, Robert (Sandra), Bonnie, Susan (David), Ian, and Sunni, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Glorianne played an invaluable role in the lives of her nephews, Jaime (Jessica) and Jordan (Melina), who considered her as a surrogate mother and, in turn, she was a surrogate grandmother to their children. Glorianne graduated from McGill University with a BA (Honours) Philosophy and later earned her LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School. She embarked on a successful career in corporate and securities law and was a partner at Cassels, Brock & Blackwell. Her role on the Ontario Securities Advisory Committee and her work on policy statements were instrumental in shaping the current regulation of mutual funds nationally and internationally. Her influence extended even further when she served as a Commissioner on the Ontario Securities Commission from 1991 to 1998. Her landmark 1995 and 1999 Reports, examining the regulation of the investment fund industry in Canada, left an indelible mark and became a blueprint for regulating the industry, benefitting consumers and strengthening the industry. She was renowned as the "patron saint of the small investor" as she advocated for focus on the needs of individual investors. In a subsequent role as Chair of the Public Accountants Council for Ontario, Glorianne spearheaded the establishment of a body to ensure public accounting practices adhered to internationally respected standards. Her impact on the financial industry and the public interest remains influential to this day. Glorianne was not only a formidable force in her professional life, but also a dedicated traveler and an avid gardener who transformed her urban space into a beautiful oasis. She was known for her hospitality and her ability to make anyone feel welcome. She cultivated her love for the culinary arts, leaving a delicious mark on those fortunate enough to enjoy her creations. Glorianne's passion for baking and her entertaining spirit brought joy to countless gatherings. Glorianne's legacy extends far beyond her professional accomplishments. She was a mentor, a friend, and an incredible role model to many. Her unwavering honesty, integrity, and courage to navigate the right course inspired all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her. She leaves behind a profound legacy as someone who made a meaningful difference. Glorianne will be deeply missed by her friends and family. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for their attentive and excellent care.
