GORDON H. JOSIE
MAY 28, 1912 FEBRUARY 20, 2011 With love and sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Gordon H. Josie at the age of 98. Gordon was a fascinating man who encompassed intelligence and old world charm. He grew up in Winnipeg where he attended the University of Manitoba and achieved his MSc in physics. Gordon went on to John Hopkins University, obtaining an MPH in Biostatistics. At a University of Manitoba Alumni luncheon in Ottawa, Gordon met and fell in love with his future wife Tanky, (nee Svanhuit Johannesson). He spent his working life with the Department of National Health & Welfare in Ottawa where he rose to the level of Senior Scientific Officer, a role which made him well traveled. After retirement he engaged as a Research Consultant in a number of projects within National Health & Welfare. He had numerous publications in the Canadian Journal of Public Health. Gordon and Tanky moved to Vancouver in May 1979 where they enjoyed many happy years. Gordon was someone who embraced the latest technical gadgets, enjoyed reading a wide scope of material, and entertaining his friends. He will be deeply missed by his nephew Henley Cunnington and his wife Cheryl, grand niece Lindsey & grand nephew Ryan, as well as close friends Juliana Corpuz, Louise & Tim McGuire, Nora Francis and many others.
