Gordon Hammond SMITH

GORDON HAMMOND SMITH RCA October 8, 1937- November 4, 2023 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gordon Hammond Smith. He left us under his own terms just as he lived his whole life with the compassionate help of MAID (medical assistance in dying). Gord/Dad passed peacefully on November 4, 2023, surrounded by his beloved children, Adam, Shannon, Kim and Chris. His soul set free of his body, his struggle to recover from a major heart attack finally over. He leaves behind the legacy his life's work, his art. A major contribution to Canada's culture. He is additionally survived by his close community of friends and supporters who loved and cared for him to the end. For this the family give you our deepest thanks as we knew he would always be surrounded by love. As a father, husband, teacher, friend, and as an artist, he touched the lives of many. He will be sorely missed. But we need not look very far to see or feel him, his work, his words, his spirit is so strong it will lift us out of sadness and cover us in joy.
