Gordon STEVENSON Obituary
STEVENSON
STEVENSON, Gordon M. (June 19, 1945 - December 6, 2010)
With resilience and fortitude, Gordon left us less than four months after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. He leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of his loving wife Judy Knight, devoted sister Leah Claire Zoya Stevenson (Adrian), Aunt Margaret, Elizabeth Jones, cousins Pat, Bob (Judy) and Roger (Carole) Finlay, step-children Adam and Carley Pinn and brother-in-law Eric Knight (Vivianne). His kindness and generosity will also be missed by extended family in Toronto and by his Uncle David and Aunt Doreen Stevenson, Aunt Ruth Procknow and numerous cousins in western Canada. Gord was predeceased by his mother, Bea and father, Ray Stevenson (Lil Greene), his beloved sister Sharon, and his dear Uncle Oscar and Aunt Bea Bunt. His absence will be keenly felt by colleagues and associates of Flemingdon Community Legal Services. Over the course of his career, Gord worked tirelessly as a poverty law lawyer with dedication, a sense of humour, and a thorough knowledge of the law. Gord's passions included over 30 years of meditation with the Theravada Buddhist Community in Toronto and the International Meditation Centre in Maryland. He was also a long time member of the Toronto Men's Group. Gord was an avid sportsman throughout his life. He enjoyed hockey, football, rugger, hiking, canoeing, camping, bicycling, swimming and skateboarding. He loved spending summers at his cabin in the community of Chateau Woodlands, Haliburton, where he also played tennis and kayaked. Quieter daily pursuits included T'ai Chi and yoga, as well as meditation. We wish to thank Palliative Care Drs. Mahtani and Silverberg (Temmy Latner Centre), Dr. Treasurer (Mt. Sinai), Drs. Headley, Bryson, Mak and Stauffer (Princess Margaret Hospital), CCAC, the nursing staff at St. Elizabeth Health Care, and especially the wonderful team of Palliative Care nurses at PMH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gord's name to the HPB Fund (Pancreatic Cancer) at the Princess Margaret Hospital or to a charity of your choice. Gord wanted it to be known that his dog, Maddie 'kept him straight'. Gord leaves a large circle of wonderful friends. Gord's family thanks all of you for the love and support expressed in so many ways during these difficult months.
We loved him deeply
