GORDON THOMPSON Obituary

(October 27, 1943 – December 4, 2025) Gordon passed away with his family by his side at the Northumberland Hills Hospital, in Cobourg, Ontario. He valiantly fought his blood disease for over eight years. Gord is survived by his wife of 55 years, Meg; and his children, Sara (Eddie), Tim, Patrick (Janet); and grandchildren, Tyler, Grace, Charlotte and Benjamin. Gord's early years were in Montreal with his parents, Carson and Aileen; and his brother, Derek. He graduated from Bishop's University in 1964 and the Faculty of Law at Queen's University in 1967. Gord loved his corporate law career, first as a partner at Borden and Elliot in Toronto, then as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Zurich Canada. He was an avid swimmer and skier, loved music, and served on numerous community and professional boards throughout his life. Most of all, however, Gord loved spending time with his family, whether at home, at the cottage on Lake Rosseau, following his and Meg's retirement in Port Hope, and on numerous family trips; he just wanted everyone to be together. We wish to thank Dr. V. Bankar at Princess Margaret Hospital, Dr. L. Vasanthamohan at Oshawa Cancer Centre, and the Intensive Care Unit Staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital for their wonderful care. A private family service will take place, with a Celebration of Life in the future (date to be determined).
