GORDON TOMKIN Obituary

Peacefully passed away at Headwaters Health Care on December 31, 2025, at the age of 68. Beloved husband of Shelley. Loving father of April (Matthew), Jacklyn, Kelly (Mike), and Patrick (Jaida). Cherished grandfather of Harper, Beckett, and baby boy-to-be. Predeceased by his loving parents, Dorothy and Fred; and his brother-in-law, Felix. Dear brother of John (Pam), Debbie, and Lori (Tom). Gord will also be greatly missed by his extended family and many friends. Gord lived his life with generosity, curiosity, and a deep sense of responsibility to those around him. A devoted family man and loyal friend, he was always ready to show up when he was needed, with no distance ever too far to drive for someone he loved. An active member of his community, Gord generously volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and proudly served for five years on the Headwaters Health Care Centre Board. Known as a true handyman extraordinaire, there was little he couldn't fix or build, whether a deck, a computer, or rewiring a house. Gord also had a love for the open road, finding joy in turning even the shortest drive into an adventure, with many memorable day trips to Niagara and Muskoka. Above all, Gord will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and unwavering dedication to his family. A celebration of Gord's life will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Words of remembrance will be spoken at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Headwaters Health Care Centre (hhcfoundation.akaraisin.com/ui/donations/donations/start) or the Canadian Cancer Society (cancer.ca/en/ways-to-give/dedicate-your-donation) would be appreciated by the family. Distance keeps me from being with everyone gathered in Gord's memory, and I regret this deeply, because I know that if things were reversed, Gord would find a way to be with all who gather in his memory. He was a true friend and the best of men, and I know I'm not alone in feeling this way about him. I honestly can't say enough about Gord, and I am afraid to even begin, as I know I could not capture even a fragment of his warmth, generosity, decency, and good nature.
My thoughts (and Carolyn's) go to all of Gord's friends and extended family, and especially to Shelley, April, Jacklyn, Kelly and Patrick. Bless you all.
