GORDON VICTOR WARD obituary

GORDON WARD Obituary

The family of Gordon Victor Ward is saddened to announce that he passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born on June 24, 1932, in Vancouver to his mother, Grace, and father, Victor. He cherished growing up in BC with his loving parents and sister, Phyllis (Wilkinson), all predeceased. Gordon earned an Electrical Engineering Degree from UBC in 1954, and an Athlone Scholarship for work and study in the UK. He met his beloved wife, Joyce, at a Nurses/Engineering dance and they married in 1956. Gordon is survived and deeply missed by his wife, Joyce Bernice (Bush); and four children, Geoffrey (Janet), Kristina, Andrea, and Lisa (Kevin Gray). His loss is also felt by his precious grandchildren, Amanda, Taylor, Chelsea, Carlisle, Jake and Reiley; and his great-grandchildren, Hutton and Lilah; in addition to many other loving friends and family members. He was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his wife, children, and grandchildren in the fields of healthcare, social services, and education, and found it particularly rewarding to see his children pass on their talents and skills to the next generation. Gordon had a very successful career at IBM, retiring in 1992 after 34 years of work assignments in Toronto, Montreal and London, England. He cultivated friendships extending beyond retirement via the "IBM Breakfast Club." He went on to become an Investment Advisor at Nesbitt Burns before he retired in 1995. Gordon was an avid pianist, able to play any piece of music "by ear." During family gatherings, the house was often filled with the sound of his phenomenal talent. He also loved playing games and enjoyed participating in the Bridge Club at the Thornhill Community Centre for many years. Gordon attracted lots of friends throughout his life with his brilliant wit, marvelous intellect, and generous heart. Many came to rely on the laughter his daily joke email would provide. He was a devoted family man whose legacy of love and caring for others will live on. Thank you for looking after mom, Dad - especially during the last two decades, when she needed it the most. It's our turn now. It's time for you to rest. In accordance with his wishes, a private family service will be held in the Spring. Memorial Donations for Gordon Ward may be made to the Salvation Army (salvationarmy.ca/donations/) or a charity of choice.

Gord could turn an everyday occurrence into a hilarious anecdote when he told us about it. An exceptional sense of humour.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gord in 1993 when we both joined Nesbitt Burns. We remained friends long after his retirement. Gords wit, sarcasm, and cynicism combined with his sense of humour gave me smiles and belly-laughs that I reminisce about today. Gord believed engineers should rule the world! He will be sorely missed by all who came to know him.
