Graham CARTER Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Graham Carter, age 66, on April 12, 2024, at the family vacation home in Arizona. He passed away in his sleep due to apparent natural causes. He was the loving husband and best friend to his wife of 32 years, Marian McConnell Carter.

Proud, loving and devoted father to Dylan, Luke and Dallas Carter. He was preceded in death by his loving father, Victor; and his mother and father-in-law, Kitty and Mac McConnell. He is survived by his mother, Annie Mae; brother, Grant (Vanda) of Ingersoll, ON; and brother and sister-in-law Tom McConnell (LaTricia Turner) of Atherton, CA. Loving uncle to Zachary (Emily), Patrick, Aaron (Megan) and Emma Carter, and Will, Reed and Cole McConnell.

Graham grew up in Woodstock, ON and was an avid sportsman. He attended Penn and Harvard undergrad, and was captain of the Harvard hockey team. He received an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. After settling in Toronto, he married Marian, who he met through his Harvard network of friends, and they started their family. He also started what has become a very successful family-run life insurance firm, CAP Advisors Inc., achieving the pinnacle of his profession. He was a friend to many, who took a genuine interest in each person he met, drawing them out, affirming them, providing advice and encouragement, and finding something to joke about. Graham was a very humble, selfless individual who always put his family first. He will forever be remembered for his kind, caring, and generous nature.

A graveside service for immediate family members is being held in Woodstock.

A private Celebration of Life to honour Graham will be held in May.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

I've known Graham or "Carts" since 1985. I met him via my late father at 15. There is not enough room here to describe him. Here are some words.....love, gentle, genuine, honest, kind, smart, dad, beautiful soul. I'm sorry to hear of his passing but all who knew him became better people. Love Steve Cathcart.

So sorry to hear about Graham´s passing. A wonderful, easygoing, warm soul. Enjoyed all our conversations because Graham was funny, insightful, and showed genuine interest. He listened well and I was always a little better in some way after we spoke. I will miss knowing him. My heart goes out to his wife, kids, extended family and close friends.

God Bless.

I will miss Graham´s magnificent, if sometimes irreverent, sense of humor that paired perfectly with his impish grin. My favorite Carterian witticism, after a long night of drinking: "I´ve gotta pee so bad my back teeth are singing `anchors away.´"

My heart is heavy with this devastating loss for Marian and the boys.
In reflecting about Graham today, I realized how much he gave to my family. He was there for me as I navigated a changing world during and after my divorce. His generosity of time and expertise helped me build a new foundation. Graham had a supportive kindness in all his interactions with me, and for that I will always be grateful. I´m so sorry Marian, he won´t be forgotten.
