IRVINE, Harold Thomas We are saddened to announce, Harold Thomas Irvine, 84, passed away Tuesday,
February 23, 2016 in Toronto. Harold is survived by his loving wife, Anne; daughter, Carrie; and sons, Craig and Brad; son-in-law, Tim Stinson; daughter- in-law, Amy; and grandchildren, Connor, Reid, Olivia, Easton and Cade.
'Hal' was born and raised in Toronto, where he grew up with an entrepreneurial spirit and a love for Muskoka. He was always a hard worker but really found his stride when he began working in the steel business. That is also where he met Anne, the love of his life and wife of 60 years. They began their amazing journey together placing equal value on hard work, fun times and building a family. Hal soon purchased his own steel company and with his partners, built it into a thriving enterprise.
Although he enjoyed great success in business, he would not consider that to be his greatest achievement. He was most proud of the important relationships in his life with his wife, family and great friends. There was no better place in the world for him to enjoy those relationships than in Muskoka. Whether it was Moon River, Lake Muskoka, Hidden Valley, or Lake Rosseau, he loved it all. He was constantly active and the first one to enjoy the outdoor sports the area had to offer, always up for waterskiing, snow skiing, tennis and golf – and encouraged everyone to join him. That being said his happiest moments were spent with Anne looking out at the lake, listening to faint sounds echoing across the water, enjoying the feeling of the late afternoon sun on his face and the smell of the fresh Muskoka air.
Hal was a man of many interests, always curious and never stopped learning. He liked nice things but had an intense appreciation of the simple things in life. There was nothing more valuable to him than a quiet sunset, a walk in the snow under the stars, a swim before bed, a Frank Sinatra song, a properly poured beer, a family barbeque, or a call from a friend.
He was so much fun. A great sense of humour, a good sport and the life of the party.
Hal was an exceptionally caring husband and father who provided an idyllic family environment. He was a great listener and a compassionate confidant. He never hesitated to help someone he cared about. His generosity was unwavering.
We are heartbroken over the loss, but are comforted by the fact he had a wonderful life filled with much love, fun and success.
In keeping with Harold's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral services. A gathering of family and friends is being planned to celebrate Harold's life at a later date.
Family and friends may wish to make a donation in his name to the Muskoka Lakes Association, Water Quality Initiative. Please call (705) 765-5723 or contact
