HAROLD ROSSER Obituary

With profound sadness, the family of Harold "Hal" Gordon Rosser announces his passing on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He leaves behind Lynda, he beloved wife of 27 years who cherished their extraordinary life together, travelling the world and spending wonderful winters in Florida. He was a devoted father to his children, Michael Rosser, Mississauga, Barbara Abbass (John), Halifax, David Rosser ( Nora Sheehan), Toronto, and Nancy Aultman (Jim), Mississauga; and loving stepfather to Wendy Stevenson (David), Surrey. He adored his grandchildren, Jennifer (Connor), Vancouver Island, Sarah, Mississauga, David (Lanah), Vancouver, Christina, Ottawa, Andrew, Christopher (Margaux), Stephanie, Mississauga and Abbi and Emma, Surrey. His great-grandsons, William and Oliver, Vancouver Island, were his delight. Prior to Hal's wonderful marriage to Lynda, he was predeceased by Helen Jean (neé Ciley), his wife of 42 years, who was by his side with love and support as his career flourished and they raised their family. Born on March 8, 1930, Hal grew up in Montreal and received his degree in Electrical Engineering as part of McGill University's class of 1952. The majority of his distinguished career was spent with Northern Telecom Ltd. Where he held a number of executive positions that took him all over the world. As an engineer and having spent his career in the field of telecommunications, his keen interest in the technology, that he had played a role in developing, never wavered and he kept abreast of all the newest innovations. A man of deep faith throughout his life, Hal maintained a very strong relationship with his church wherever he lived in Montreal, Mississauga, and Burlington. Hal was a generous man, leaving behind a legacy of quiet contributions and selfless support to many. His positive attitude and tireless work ethic were an inspiration to those who knew him and created ripples across the generations. Visitation at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), Burlington, (905-632-3333), on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 6-9 p.m., where a celebration of Hal's wonderful life will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Hal's name to Port Nelson United Church or to the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health (McMaster University), 50 Charlton Avenue E., Hamilton, ON L8N 4A6.

Mr. Rosser ( and I'll forever remember him as such) always made me feel heard... "listened to" was more appropriate. I remember the first time I met him... He had volunteered to pick Nancy and I up ( I think) from the Go train after one of our first dates ... and I leaned forward from the back seat of his car and asked..." So, what do you do for a living?" I believe he quickly realized how nervous I was, desperate to make a good impression, and while I noticed a quick look of surprise, he simply grinned and ... told me ... showing a depth of understanding and graciousness that I always appreciated and respected. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing and send my best wishes to his entire family!
