I know this comes much after the passing of Mr. Shenkman but I am just typing up some of my Mother's memoire and would like to pass along how he helped my Mother's family at a time of need. My grandparents rented a house from Mr. Shenkman and my grandfather did a lot of work decorating Mr. Shenkman's many office buildings in downtown Ottawa. During the depression my grandfather got very sick and was unable to work. While my grandmother tried to keep up the rent by cleaning homes, she fell down the basement stairs and severely broke her writst. Harold Shenkman was very kind in their time of need and let them live in the house rent-free until my grandparents were able to work again.
When I read Harold Shenkman's obituary, I was confident that this is the kind gentleman for which my Mother mentioned in her memoir.
While late, I wish to extend my thank you and condolences - Harold Shenkman truly made a difference to my family's life and no doubt to many others.
