Harold WHALEN Obituary

HAROLD WHALEN June 18, 1920 - December 3, 2021 Harold (Harry) Whalen, beloved husband of Brenda Whalen, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at the age of 101 years. In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by his children: David (Wendy), Bob, Gwen Cole (David) and Cynthia (David LeBlanc); his grandchildren: Kim McNeill (Darcy), Paul (Amber), Beth Pollock (Sean), Matthew Cole (Lauren), Ryan Cole (Maggie), Alexander and Adam LeBlanc; and his great-grandchildren: Caylin, Hazel, Carter, Logan, Nolan, Evan, James, Aiden and Benjamin. Harry grew up in Newfoundland before immigrating to Toronto, Canada in 1948. He enjoyed over 101 healthy and happy years with a sense of humour and a constant smile on his face. He was an eternal optimist and loved life, living each day to the fullest. He was happiest spending time with his beloved wife of 71 years and his family. Harry was the life of the party up until the day he died, telling jokes, playing euchre, dancing, rollerblading and collecting a bit of everything. Harry was always up for adventure and was notably, at 97 years, the oldest person to complete the CN tower edge walk. A bricklayer by trade, Harry was also a skilled woodworker, and we are all lucky to have many of his creations that we can treasure for years to come. Although we will all miss his smile and kindness we hope that he is now dancing with the angels and telling jokes to a whole new crowd in heaven. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful and caring doctors and staff at Revera Donway Place and Seniors Health Centre for taking great care of Harry. A service will be held at the York Cemetery and Funeral Centre Tuesday, December 7. Service and donation information can be found at www.etouch.ca

My condolences to Brenda and family. I will surely miss Harry if we ever get to play cards again after this Covid thing is over. I now wish that I had recorded his unending supply of jokes.
