BAIN, Dr. Harry William,O.C., MD, LLD, DLitt.
Born in Cache Bay on October 7, 1921, died December 21, 2001 at North Bay General Hospital in his 81st year. Harry was the loving husband of Barbara Watt. He was the much loved father of Patti and her husband John Parsons, Debbie and her husband Jamie Munro, all of Halifax; Becky and her husband Robert Lambur, Jennifer Bain, and Michael Bain and his wife Jennifer Wells, all of Toronto. He was predeceased by his first wife Josephine Van Norman and his son Geoffrey. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Chris, Geoff and Rachael Parsons, Allister, Robin and Jackson Munro, Sandy Bain, Ian, Maddy and Alex Lambur, Lucy Bain, and Kate Bain. Harry was the dearly loved brother of Doris Kennedy and her husband John of North Bay, and Marjorie Dahl and Ruth Foy, both of California. He was also predeceased by his sisters Jean Easto and Dorothy Alcock, and by his brother Howard Bain. Harry spent 35 years with The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, including 10 years as the Physician-in-Chief, and was Professor and Chair of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. An officer of the Order of Canada, Harry was given many honours, including the Canadian Medical Association's F.N.G. Starr Award in 1998 for his humanitarianism and his work helping Canada's northern communities. A funeral was held December 24 in North Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Nipissing Partners in Conservation (1835 Cassells Street, North Bay P1B 4C8), North Bay General Hospital, Hospital for Sick Children, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Martyn Funeral Home, 464 Wyld Street, North Bay P1B 4T8. Husband, father, doctor, fisherman - a good man.
