Harry BLACK Obituary



BLACK, Harry Samuel
July 30, 1934 - February 4, 2017

In his 83rd year, having been
surrounded by loved ones in his
last days and after many loving
visits on his last day of life, Harry
Black passed away peacefully at
home which was his dying wish
Harry was an author, an
illustrator, and an international
aid worker. His career choices
demonstrated compassion to
others, including his work with
the Canadian Red Cross, his 26
years as Executive Director of
UNICEF Canada, and his work
post-retirement with the
International Council for Control
of Iodine Deficiency Disorders
(ICCIDD). During his time at
UNICEF, he showed great
compassion in his drive to
improve living conditions for
children in developing countries,
leading disaster and famine relief
projects worldwide. For this
work, Harry was awarded the
prestigious Order of Canada-
Canada's highest honour for
lifetime achievement. He is
survived by his loving wife
Suzanne, his daughter Annelise
and son-in-law Derek, his
brother Don (Ruth) and nephew
Chris, his sister Beverly, his
100-year old veteran father-in-
law Charles (Andy) Anderson
(Alice), his brothers-in-law Gary,
Glen (Bev) and Mike (Jill). He was
a proud grandpa to Deyanne,
Ayden, and Devon, and even
their dog Kody. Family will
receive friends at the O'Neill
Funeral Home 6324 Main Street
Stouffville (905)642-2855 from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday
February 11, 2017. Funeral
Service will be held at Eastridge
Evangelical Missionary Church
(12485 Tenth Line Stouffville) on
Sunday February 12, 2017 at
2:30 p.m. Cremation. In Harry's
memory, donations can be made
to The Children's Wish
Foundation and the International
Council for Control of Iodine
Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD). If
